A place of Jewish worship...learning...and assembly.
Our focus is to cultivate a caring, inclusive community
in the spirit of liberal Judaism.
What is PRS doing for our community?
PRS has been instrumental along with another faith organization in supporting a wonderful Afghan family. The mom, dad, and 2 small children (and one on the way!) are most grateful for our time and energy in helping the family adjust to life in the U.S. We are currently looking for anyone who would be willing to donate a car big enough for 3 car seats and 2 adults.
And we are delighted to be holding a baby shower for Nabila on Saturday, December 2, at 11:30-2 PM. If you would like to go, but have not received an invitation please call Cathy Duke. Please come to meet her, her husband Baseer, and their two adorable girls, Ashwa, and Madija.
PRS is also proud to help a Haldane family which is food insecure through the Haldane backpack program which provides nutritious food which the children themselves can prepare to carry them through the weekend and also through school holidays.
PRS will again take a leadership role along with St. Mary’s Church and Our Lady of Loretto in providing a terrific and free Thanksgiving dinner to anyone who asks. Last year more than 200 meals were donated and enjoyed.
Will you be joining PRS this winter?
These are challenging days for all of us as Jews. We all have different approaches to our Judaism, but the war in the Middle East has made us conscious of what unites us. We are now getting protection from the sheriff (who is in touch with the FBI) because we are responding to the disturbing uptick in antisemitic incidents. What is our response? We invite you to join with us both in person and on zoom to feel the comforting presence of your Jewish community. We invite you to share some meaningful prayers, light candles if you wish, and drink wine during our zoom services and participate in the conversation. Here are the dates of our services:
Friday, December 8, 5 PM -10: Are you feeling the need for latkes? Join PRS for our Hanukkah celebration! Bring your candlesticks, and volunteer to bring a bottle of wine or something wonderful for dinner! (Call Cathy to tell her!) We will also be donating non perishables and personal care items to the Philipstown Food Pantry. And no doubt Rabbi Helaine will share something about Hanukkah with us. Also please donate warm gloves, scarves, or hats for the folks at the pantry.
If you would like to make a donation to help us in our efforts, please send a
check to the following:
Philipstown Reform Synagogue
PO Box 94
Cold Spring, NY 10516.
All funds donated to PRS are tax
deductible to the fullest extent under the law.
